SITHFAB005 Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee

Course Description

Become a qualified barista and learn how to prepare and serve a range of coffee beverages. In this course students will learn the theoretical and technical sides of coffee making including the methods and techniques for preparing caffe lattes, cappuccinos, espressos (short black), flat whites, piccolos lattes, macchiatos and much more.

Students will learn about the different types of milk, their characteristics and uses for different types of coffee beverages, different types of beans, blends and roasts, grinding coffee beans, extracting espresso, tamping, steam pressure during foaming, steaming of milk and water pressure during extraction.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

 A prerequisite of this short course is SITXFSA001 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety. Students are encouraged to complete this course online before attending class.

A Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment may be conducted on all entrants prior to enrolment into the program to ensure that Queensford College can support each student throughout the program.

Students will need to ensure they are able to connect to the internet and have the capability to use our online learning system that meets the minimum technical requirements, which are:

  • Access to a laptop/computer is preferred
  • An operating system supporting the following browsers (current version and up to three most recent versions): Chrome, Firefox, Safari (excluding Safari on Windows), and Microsoft Edge
    • For Windows: Windows 10, 4 Gb RAM installed (minimum)
    • FOR MAC: Mac OS X 10.13 or above
  • Access to Word processing software, such as Microsoft Word
    • Reliable internet connection

Course Overview

This short course is suitable for students who have interest in learning to make coffee.

Along with the preparation of these beverages students are also taught; basic maintenance and cleaning methods for espresso grinders, machines and equipment, latte art and food health and safety regulations.

Class sizes are kept small (8-10) to ensure students have adequate working space and undivided attention from our industry qualified Trainers.

During this short course students will actively work through a theory workbook before using coffee and equipment supplied by Aromas coffee to demonstrate their practical knowledge.

Course Outcome

A “Statement of Attainment” will be issued listing the individual units successfully completed.

Course Fees

This course is Fee for Service (FFS). Course fees are to be paid in full upfront through your own pocket by direct debit or credit card. Terms and conditions will apply, contact us to find out more.

Course Fee*: $120.00

*Subject to meeting minimum class size: 15 students. If class size not met, then students will be required to attend next scheduled class time. A Queensford College staff will notify students prior to class start. All prices are in Australian Dollars and Queensford College reserves rights to change the course fee without any notice.

Course Cancellation and Refund Information

If you wish to cancel your enrolment, you must provide us with written notification to info@queensford.edu.au stating your full name, course details and reason for cancellation. Please note there will be NO REFUNDS granted before, on or after commencement date of a course. Students will be enrolled into the next class session if they have notified the college they cannot attend and wish to attend the next class session.
