SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

Course Description

This course aims to educate individuals about the responsible practices that must be followed whenever alcohol is sold or served. This short unit applies to all levels of sales personnel involved in the sale, service and promotional service of alcohol in licensed premises at any workplace, hospitality venue, packaged liquor outlet, winery, brewery and distillery.

Individuals in positions including food and beverage attendants, packaged liquor sales persons selling in person, over the phone or online, winery, brewery and distillery cellar door staff and supplier representatives by law are required to hold a Responsible Service of Alcohol certification.

Those developing training to support this unit must consult the relevant state or territory liquor licensing authority to determine any accreditation arrangements for courses, trainers and assessors.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course students will be to know how to sell and serve alcohol responsibly, assist customers to drink within appropriate limits, asses alcohol affected customers and identify those whom sale or service must be refused.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

A Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment may be conducted on all entrants prior to enrolment into the program to ensure that Queensford College can support each student throughout the program.

Students will need to ensure they are able to
connect to the internet and have the capability to use our online learning system that meets the minimum technical requirements, which are:

  • Access to a laptop/computer is preferred
  • An operating system supporting the following browsers (current version and up to three most recent versions): Chrome, Firefox, Safari (excluding Safari on Windows), and Microsoft Edge
    • For Windows: Windows 10, 4 Gb RAM installed (minimum)
    • FOR MAC: Mac OS X 10.13 or above
  • Access to Word processing software, such as Microsoft Word
    • Reliable internet connection

Course Overview

This short course is suitable for students who have interest in learning to provide service of alcohol.

In this course students will also learn how to:

  • Sell or serve alcohol according to provisions of relevant state or territory legislation, licensing requirements and responsible service of alcohol principles.
  • Where appropriate, request and obtain acceptable proof of age prior to sale or service.
  • Identify issues related to the sale or service of alcohol to different types of customers, especially those at risk, and incorporate them into sales or service.
  • Prepare and serve standard drinks or samples according to industry requirements and professional standards.
  • Use a professional manner to encourage customers to drink within appropriate limits.
  • Recognise erratic drinking patterns as an early sign of possible intoxication and take appropriate action.
  • Monitor emotional and physical state of customers for signs of intoxication and effects of illicit or other drug use.
  • Where appropriate, offer food and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Decline requests for alcohol to be dispensed in a manner that is irresponsible and advise customers of the reasons for the refusal.

Course Outcome

A “Statement of Attainment” will be issued listing the individual units successfully completed.

Course Fees

This course is Fee for Service (FFS) and may vary from State to State. Course fees are to be paid in full upfront through your own pocket by direct debit or credit card. Terms and conditions will apply, contact us to find out more.

Course Fee*: $120.00

*Subject to meeting minimum class size: five students. If class size not met, then students will be required to attend next scheduled class time. A Queensford College staff will notify students prior to class start. All prices are in Australian Dollars and Queensford College reserves rights to change the course fee without any notice.

Course Cancellation and Refund Information

If you wish to cancel your enrolment, you must provide us with written notification to info@queensford.edu.au stating your full name, course details and reason for cancellation. Please note there will be NO REFUNDS granted before, on or after commencement date of a course. Students will be enrolled into the next class session if they have notified the college they cannot attend and wish to attend the next class session.
