There is something wonderfully disarming about a campus full of people in pyjamas. Slippers in the stairwell. Flannel in the classroom. A dressing gown at the reception desk. For PJ Week, our students and staff swapped the usual dress code for something a whole lot comfier, and in doing so they raised $359 for a cause close to our hearts.

Small contributions, big collective impact

What makes this total special is not the number itself. It is who is behind it.

Students contributed. Staff contributed. Some gave a gold coin, some gave a little more, and everyone gave their time and their willingness to turn up looking gloriously unprofessional for a good reason. That is what community fundraising looks like: lots of small acts, stacked together, adding up to something that genuinely helps.

Nobody had to do anything extraordinary. They just had to care enough to join in. And they did.

Why we back events like this

We could have skipped it. Fundraising weeks take coordination, they take reminders, they take someone chasing the donation tin at 4pm on a Friday. But we keep saying yes to these events, and here is why.

• Because our students are heading into careers built on care. Many of them are studying early childhood education, community services, individual support and fitness. They are training for work where the whole point is looking after other people, particularly people who need someone in their corner. PJ Week is a small, practical reminder of the values behind the qualification.
• Because young people deserve adults who show up. Not every child grows up with a safe bedtime, a warm bed and someone reading them a story. Events like this help fund the kind of support that gives young people stability, encouragement and a fair shot at their own future. That is worth a bit of effort and a pair of novelty pyjama pants.
• Because community is something you practise. A campus is not just a place people pass through on the way to a certificate. It is a group of people who can decide, together, to make a difference. Weeks like this one are how that muscle gets built.
