Our Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) gives you the practical skills and knowledge to work as a dedicated aged care support worker. You'll learn to deliver person-centred care that promotes independence and wellbeing, support people living with dementia, and assist with palliative and end-of-life care. The course also builds your skills in safe work practices, infection prevention and control, recognising and reporting the risk of falls, and providing loss and grief support — everything you need to make a genuine difference in the lives of older people.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Short Answer	Short form responses to capture evidence of knowledge and, in some cases, skill application.
Practical Project / Observation	Requires students to complete practical tasks and written work related to the practical. Important Information About Mandatory Vocational Placement

Vocational placement is a compulsory component of this course and is critical for achieving competency in specific units. Students cannot receive the qualification until all placement requirements are completed.

Placement Duration & Timing

The course requires a minimum of 160 hours of mandatory vocational placement. Vocational placement is typically scheduled towards the end of the course, after completing relevant theoretical components. This ensures students are well-prepared for real workplace environments.

Placement Support

Queensford College assists in arranging suitable placements, but students are expected to actively participate in the process. Comprehensive support and guidance is provided, including detailed information on placement timing, structure, and expectations during course and placement orientation sessions.

Vocational Placement and Practical Classes

Enrolling in the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) requires students to complete practical training and vocational placement in a regulated aged care setting. By enrolling in this course, students acknowledge and accept the following conditions:

1. Physical Demands & Workplace Expectations

Practical training and placement involve physically demanding tasks such as:
Manual handling, mobility assistance, personal care, and daily living support
Using assistive and medical equipment, including lifting/transferring clients
Students must follow all workplace health and safety procedure, including infection control, hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and manual handling protocols.

Due to the nature of work, students may also encounter challenging experiences such as supporting individuals with chronic illness or age-related conditions, addressing grief and loss, providing palliative care and coping with the passing of those in their care. It is important for prospective students to carefully consider these factors when deciding if this course is right for them.

2. Health & Safety Compliance

Students must inform the training provider and host facility of any medical conditions, injuries, or physical limitations that could affect their ability to safely and effectively perform care-related tasks.
Any relevant health conditions, allergies, or other factors that may impact participation must be disclosed prior to placement.
Students must meet all vaccination, health screening, and infection control requirements as mandated by industry and government regulations.

3. Legal & Regulatory Requirements

Students must obtain and maintain a valid National Police Check before vocational placement.
Depending on the state or territory, additional clearances (e.g. NDIS Worker Screening Check or Working with Vulnerable People Check) may be required.
Failure to obtain or maintain required clearances may prevent placement and impact course completion.

4. Professional Conduct & Industry Standards

Students must demonstrate:

Professionalism, respect, empathy, confidentiality, and effective communication when working with older people, colleagues, families, and supervisors.
Compliance with organisational polices and client rights

Failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from placement and impact course progression.

5. Completion Requirements

Practical training and vocational placement are mandatory components of the course. Students who are unable to complete these components due to personal, medical, or legal reasons may result in ineligibility for the qualification.

Academic Entry Requirements

For Queensland Students (Career Start):

Aged 15 years or older and no longer at school
Permanently reside in Queensland
Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or temporary resident with an eligible visa
Not already hold a Certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years
Not currently enrolled in another qualification

LLND Requirements

All students must undertake Queensford College’s Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills assessment via online LLN Robot System.

For South Australia VFSS funded students:

In response to ASQA Standards 1.7 Supporting Students and 5.1 to 5.3 Informing and Protecting Students, DIS has introduced the Upfront Assessment of Needs (UAN) for school students undertaking publicly subsidised accredited training. School students must undertake the mandated short indicative assessment (SRNI) to assess if the individual is at the required ACSF Exit Level 2. If no further assessment is indicated, the individual can proceed in the UAN process. However, if further assessment is indicated, the student will need to undertake the Literacy and Numeracy Comprehensive Assessment (LaNCA) test to enable confirmation and establish the current ACSF Working Level and ACSF Exit Level.

Course Study Requirements

For South Australia VFSS funded students:

To be eligible for access to a subsidised training place in an approved course, a school student must meet the following criteria.

They must be:

An Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or,
A permanent Australian resident or,
An eligible visa holder
Reside in South Australia

AND ARE:

Enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 and employed in a Training Contract that combines VET and school-based curriculum including SACE

OR ARE:

Enrolled in Year 11, 12 or 13 and are 16 years of age or turning 16 years of age in the current year of that enrolment, and
Are undertaking SACE or equivalent and,
Have completed a preparatory VET pathway

Training providers must sight evidence to demonstrate the eligibility criteria has been met. Further detailed information on the range of evidence the Department accepts as demonstration of having completed a preparatory VET pathway, refer to the VET for School Student Approved Evidence for Completion of a Relevant VET Pathway Guide. To be eligible for a subsidised school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, school students must be in year 10, 11 or 12 at the time of commencement. School students below year 10 are not eligible to access a subsidised training place under a contract of training arrangement.

not already hold a Certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (school and foundation-skills qualifications do not count); and
not be enrolled in another qualification, whether funded by DTET or not.

This qualification has no additional course-specific entry requirements beyond Queensford's standard academic and English requirements.

Fee-free for eligible students. Available fee-free for eligible students under 25 and School-Based Trainees, and for eligible Queensland Year 12 graduates transitioning to employment. The co-contribution below applies to all other eligible students.

To access a subsidised place under the apprenticeship or traineeship pathway, a student must:

have entered into a training contract for a DTET-funded qualification and be registered on the relevant systems;
if from overseas, hold a visa allowing them to work in Australia;
not be enrolled in another qualification; and
not have already completed 2 apprenticeship or traineeship qualifications (including school-based) within the last 10 years.

School students can only access apprenticeships and traineeships through a registered School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT).
